English Department
Approach
At Meridian Primary, we believe that language is the foundation of learning, creativity, and connection. Our English curriculum is thoughtfully designed to inspire confidence, curiosity, and competence in every student, guided by Singapore’s STELLAR (Strategies for English Language Learning and Reading) framework. By blending time-tested methodologies with innovative practices, we create a vibrant learning environment where students not only master the English Language but also discover the joy of using it to explore ideas, express themselves, and engage with the world.
Our approach begins with immersive, story-based lessons that bring language to life. Through rich narratives, non-fiction texts, and interactive activities, students develop a deep understanding of grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension in meaningful contexts. Collaborative learning lies at the heart of this process, whether through group discussions, role-playing, or peer feedback, students learn to articulate their thoughts, listen actively, and refine their ideas alongside classmates. This fosters not only academic growth but also empathy and teamwork, essential skills for lifelong success.
Confidence in communication is cultivated through diverse opportunities for expression. From lively classroom debates and dramatic performances to creative writing projects and digital storytelling, students are encouraged to find their voice and share it with clarity and creativity. Technology plays a purposeful role here, with multimedia presentations equipping students to navigate and contribute to our digital world.
